Juyongguan Great Wall is one of the most historically significant sections of the Great Wall and has served as a strategic mountain pass protecting Beijing for over 2,000 years. It is one of the Three Great Passes of the Great Wall, together with Shanhaiguan and Jiayuguan.
Built during the Ming Dynasty on the site of an even older defensive pass, Juyongguan has long been regarded as the northern gateway to Beijing. Military forces controlled this narrow mountain pass because it was one of the most important routes into the capital.
For most first-time visitors to Beijing, Mutianyu remains the most convenient and family-friendly Great Wall experience. However, Juyongguan is an excellent choice for those who want to explore one of the Great Wall’s most historically important defensive passes while enjoying beautiful mountain scenery.
